Detailed Trail Description

Beginners and intermediate bikers often find this park interesting as the trails you find upon entry are largely singletrack and quite easy to ride through. However, the story becomes different as you venture deeper and branch into other trails. One such trail is the Golden Gate Trail, whose rocky and downhill outlook makes it more technical when it rains.

Also, there is the Prospector Trail which arguably is the most technical section of the loop as its loose rocky section runs through to the top of a hill. Going down the hill via this trail would lead you to other social trails and intersections. Amazingly, most of the trails are connected, thus making it less likely for riders to get lost.

Finally, there is the Gates Pass Trail which would require that you cross a steep drop-off and climb across a wash, a highly walking section. With its rocky nature and the many cacti that line the trail, it is an interesting section of the park to bike through. With an elevation gain of 628 up and a loss of 528 down, this park is ideal for intermediate mountain bikers.

Additional Trail Features

In addition to having several bike trails, Tucson Mountain Park is also an ideal area for hikers and lovers of nature alike due to the numerous breathtaking scenes it offers. From here, you can glimpse the Saguaro National Park and the Sonora Desert Museum. Also, dogs are allowed in the park, but they should be leashed.

Recommendations/Precautions

Certain trails in the park are quite difficult when it rains, so for riders who are relatively new to biking, it is best to avoid such trails. Also, even though the park opens to easy trails, riders should be wary as several trails within the park are tricky. Since there is no information on drinking water, it would help if you brought along your food and water supplies. Finally, carry along a first aid kit for riding emergencies.

Conclusion

Tucson Mountain Park is quite the spot for adventurous bikers due to its length. There are several biking trails, some of which are not as difficult as the others. The park is also open to hikers, as there are several hiking trails.
