Trail Overview

  • Distance: A comfortable 7 miles
  • Level: Suited for intermediate riders
  • Route Type: A looping adventure
  • Location: Positioned within the city limits of North Port, Florida

Navigating the Terrain

The Myakkahatchee Creek Trail, predominantly a hardpacked singletrack, offers an out and back loop extending about 5.5 miles. It stands out as one of the prime singletracks in the area, especially considering its well-maintained status, courtesy of the SCORR riders. As a bonus, riders can freshen up or take necessary breaks at the convenient restrooms situated at the MCEP park. The route begins at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, located at 6968 Reisterstown Rd, North Port, FL 34291. From Sumter Road east of the interstate, take a left at the stop sign at Tropicaire. A right turn on Reisterstown will lead straight to the park. For the trailhead, journey east through the parking lot, cross a bridge into the Carlton Reserve, take a right, and spot the trailhead to the left before the next bridge.

The Dual Delight: Live Long & Prosper Trails

The trail boasts two signature paths: the Live Long and Prosper Trails. Accessible from the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, riders journey east over a bridge and south on the power line until reaching another cement bridge. From here, the Live Long Trail beckons on the north side, while Prosper invites on the south. While both trails offer an engaging ride, Live Long presents more technical challenges, making it essential for riders to stay alert. Stray but 6 inches, and the waters of the creek eagerly await. For those who fancy tight trails, twists around trees, and negotiating large roots, these trails will prove satisfying, if a bit gnarly at times.
