Detailed Trail Description

Southside Park has three trail loops; beginner, intermediate, and expert. Southside Park was extremely underutilized before the mountain bike trails were created. The beginner loop trail, known as the Evergreen Trail, is the oldest of all three trails and truly friendly to beginners.

The Southside Park's beginner trail is at 3460 Jonesboro Road, Atlanta, GA 30357. The trailhead is marked at the north end of the parking lot. Also, the trailhead signage displays which direction you (and other mountain bikers) should travel based on the day of the week. Other trail users typically walk or run in the opposite direction.

Regardless of the direction, the trailhead signage directs you, the Evergreen Trail leads you into the Southside Park's beautiful forest canopy. The first half of riding on the trail, also known as the green trail, involves a modest climb that goes on for a while. The climb will challenge you as a beginner warming up for more difficult trails.

The second and last half of the Evergreen Trail is a bit different from the first. The last half opens you up to fast and windy fun. This ride takes you to the blue connector trail, the intermediate loop. You can continue on the trail if you are ready for a harder trail.

However, if you are not prepared for the intermediate trail, take a U-turn at the blue connector trail and return to the trailhead. Of course, you will do some climbing in the first half of your return trip while you end the trip with a fast ride to the trailhead.
