Detailed Trail Description

Beacon Hill does not have a single trail; it has a network of trails you can choose from for your adventure. In total, the hill has up to 60 trails, meaning there are plenty of trails for your mountain biking adventure. These trails have different obstacles and difficulty levels that should determine your choice.

The two different sides of Beacon Hill feature two main parking areas. One of the parking lots is at Camp Sekani Trailhead, which lets you access the dirt jumps and downhill trails on Beacon Hill.

The second option, which our team of bike enthusiasts favors, is the Esmeralda side. This parking lot is located at the bottom of the Esmeralda trail near the Esmeralda Golf Course and Minnehaha Park. Parking here puts on Beacon Hill’s west side.

From there, pick a trail or the access road and head up, where you will find many trail options as you ride further up. Here are popular routes you can use:

Esmeralda Trail

Esmeralda is a classic trail on Beacon Hill. You can ride through the course in both directions, and it is usually smooth with sweeping turns. It makes you do some exciting climbing. Almost all country rides on Beacon Hill involve Esmeralda because it accesses several other trails and delivers fun rides in its own right.

It’s worth mentioning that Esmeralda trail is ideal for intermediate mountain bikers; beginners may struggle on the trail.

Dan Trail

The Dan Trail is also ideal for intermediate mountain bikers and can be ridden in either direction. Also, this trail is excellent for cross-country rides. It descends from Beacon Hill’s eastern Camp Sekani side towards the park’s western side.

Furthermore, the Dan Trail accesses some of the most fun all-mountain and cross-country trails on Beacon Hill.

Both favorite trails of our team of bike enthusiasts, Esmeralda and Dan, descend towards the Camp Sekani Trailhead with a buff trail and great flow. Ultimately, it’s up to choose the length of your ride.
