Bike and Roll Guides

Janna, originally from Iowa has lived in the nation’s capital for 18 years and still considers herself an Iowan at heart.  She loves the adventure of running a business - with husband Stephen - every day brings something new. She cycles to work down the Capital Crescent trail and enjoys visiting the World War II Memorial early in the morning.

Stephen (or “Crash” as he is known around the shop) was born and raised in the suburbs of D.C. He only truly discovered the wonders of our nation’s capital when he and his wife Janna bought Bike the Sites. As a tour guide Stephen is known to deliver an unorthodox and entertaining tour of which his favorite is Sites @ Nite. And oh yeah…he is totally obsessed with Tai Shan, the new panda at the National Zoo.

Nikki, born and raised in the suburbs of D.C., escaped to Vermont for 7 years. Her brother (and business owner), Stephen, lured her away from her studies in Acupuncture to become the General Manager at Bike the Sites. Her passion for people and biking shines through on her tours. She loves her job so much she can often be found lurking around the shop on her days off. Nikki’s an expert at weaving an interesting story to include the boring dates and historical facts of the sights in DC, and her favorite part about being a tour guide is meeting people.

Kelly is originally from North Carolina, but moved to D.C. 6 years ago from Portland, Oregon. She balances doing marketing for Bike the Sites with playing street hockey and yu-gi-oh with her kids. Her favorite D.C. monument is the FDR because it does such a great job of telling a story. As an avid cyclist herself, she dreams of a Washington where people chose bikes first to get around.

Rich is originally from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He is currently finishing his masters degree at the George Washington University. Rich loves D.C. because it is a diverse city that has so much to offer and he enjoys meeting people from different places. His favorite memorial is the Japanese-American Memorial to Patriotism because it demonstrates that as a nation we are not afraid to admit to our mistakes.

Brandon is from Wilson, NC. Before starting at Bike the Sites as the head mechanic, he worked at a youth program called Chain Reaction Youth Bike Shop. He loves to go biking and enjoys working with his hands. His favorite D.C. spot is the awe captivating Air and Space Museum.

Carl hails from the great cycling state of Indiana. A retired teacher and an avid cyclist, Carl could tell you all about the trails in and around Washington D.C. When he is not on his bike, which hardly ever happens, he could be found at one of the Smithsonians or National Galleries of Art.

Jas came to D.C. to attend the George Washington University, where he fell in love with this endlessly fascinating city while earning his degree in Psychology. He loves showing people our majestic and intriguing town and is always amply supplied with Almond M&Ms. He feels that the best way to see Washington is by bike - he even bikes the 3½ blocks from his apartment to visit the Air & Space Museum because, as he says, "walking takes f o r e v e r . "

Sarah F came to D.C. nearly 9 years ago to study Theatre at the George Washington University and never left. She's an actress and a history geek, the perfect combination for a tour guide. Sarah's favorite thing to do is sneak a peak at the Marc Chagall mosaic in a Georgetown back yard (ask her - maybe she'll tell you where it is). Sarah bikes to work from her Columbia Heights apartment, where she lives with her fiance Aaron and her two cats.

Teresa, of North Carolina (via a few other places!), has become an avid cyclist since joining Bike the Sites, riding with several local groups. She loves exploring the various sides of DC, both as a resident and through her work with new visitors. On any of her summer tours, you'll never run out of sunscreen!

Kate moved to DC in 2001 from Providence, Rhode Island by way of Vermont. In her past life she was a master eqestrian, but has since traded inher horse for a bike. Since joining the Bike the Sites team she has started spending all of her free time on the areas' bike trails. Don't blink, or you'll miss her, she's really fast!

Bruce originally from Ohio and Michigan, has been in the DC area since 1966 and is practically a native. He lives in nearby Alexandria, a perfect 8 mile fitness ride from DC on the trails along the Potomac. Now retired, he spends most of his time volunteering for bicycle advocacy groups like the Washington Area Bicyclsts Association and is also a board member for Bike Walk Virginia. His favorite ride is the 185 mile C&O Canal towpath, an escape back in time away from roads and cars.

Ben is originally from Wisconsin and has been in D.C. for the past four years studying at the American University where he recently graduated with a degree in International Studies. In the next year, Ben will backpack across 11 European countries and then head off to Pohnpei, Micronesia to teach for a year. When he is not checking out the area bike trails he's probably on his way to play tennis, ultimate frisbee or soccer. Ben's favorite spots in DC include the FDR and World War II memorials as well as the National Cathedral.

Gwyn is from Pennsylvania and is a senior studying International Affairs at the George Washington University. A lover of Washington, new adventures, and meeting people from all over the world, she is excited to be working at Bike the Sites. Her favorite monument is the WWI monument to D.C. veterans, which is tucked away near the reflecting pool.
