Our main location is half a block from the National Mall on 12th Street, NW between Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues.  We’re in the rear plaza of The Old Post Office Pavilion, directly across the street from the Federal Triangle Metro Rail elevator exit (orange and blue lines). Where can I ride in Washington, DC?

Washington, DCs' most popular monuments and memorials are easily accessible by bike and you'll find that a bicycle is the perfect vehicle for touring and sightseeing.  You can visit monuments and memorials by riding safely on paths, trails and sidewalks.  If you're looking for a longer ride the area boasts an extensive network of scenic bike paths. Staff favorites include the Capital Crescent Trail and C&O Canal, the Mount Vernon and Curtis Trails, Rock Creek Park and the W&OD Trail.  Our staff is happy to help you find your way - given the opportunity most of our staff would love to ride with you! What type of bike should I rent?

We have a wide range of bicycles from single speed cruisers perfect for a casual ride around downtown Washington, DC to 21 speed road bikes for long distance rides on paved trails and roads. Our most popular bike is a 21-speed comfort bicycle - a good all around performer for touring the monuments and memorials.

How does your rental pricing work?

Our rental pricing is very flexible and designed to meet your travel needs. Rental charges are determined when you return your equipment. The minimum rate is used when you return your equipment within two hours of your start time. If you are out for a partial day (up to four hours) the half-day rate will used. The day rate is applies to rentals for more than four hour until closing. And, for just $10 more, you can keep the equipment overnight for a full 24 hours. What's included in the rental price?

With every Bike and Roll rental, you'll receive a keyed U-lock, a handlebar bag or rack, a local map, a tire changing kit, and a helmet. Our Washington, DC staff will be able to provide touring tips, suggest routes and answer any other questions you might have. Bottled of water is available for purchase for just $1.

Do I need to reserve a rental bike?

Reservations are not required for our comfort bikes; Bike and Roll Washington, DC carries a large number of adult and kid sized bikes and equipment. If you prefer, reservations are accepted for day-long rentals; Two- and four-hour rentals are available on a walk-up basis only. Please make your reservations on-line for comfort bikes and kids equipment; Call to reserve performance, tandem and road bikes as their quantities are limited, 202-842-BIKE (2453).

How do I lock my bike when I want to walk around or visit a museum?

We provide you with a keyed U-lock. Bikes should be locked to bike racks or other immoveable objects.  If you are stopping on federal property it is important to ask where you can lock your bike. The handlebar bags should either be detached and taken with you or emptied and left open.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

Washington, DC law requires individuals aged 16 and under to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle; we strongly recommend that all of our participants wear a helmet. Wearing a properly fitted helmet reduces head injuries by 85%.  We require participants under 18 to wear a helmet.
