Destination D.C. CEO Elliott Ferguson, "The Best Way to See D.C."

November 22th, 2011 (Special thanks to Washington Business Journal)

Wondering what to get your staff this holiday season? Among many other interstesting suggestsions featured in the most recent issue of the Washington Business Journal (including Cuban cigars and yummy baked goods), Destination D.C. CEO Elliott Ferguson recommends two tickets for a Bike and Roll guided tour. "Even people who haven't been in a bike in 20 years, and perhaps feel a bit nervous about it, after 20 minutes, they love it. I think it's among the best ways to see D.C."

What is the difference between Bike and Roll and Capital Bikeshare?
For Immediate Release: April 12, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – Washington's new bike share system, Capital Bikshare (CaBi), is a fantastic addition to our city. The program is an initiative of DDOT to get more cyclists on the road and provide another facet of our public transportation system. There has been some confusion amongst some of our customers who are curious about the difference between Bike and Roll and Capital Bikeshare.

The most prominent difference is that CaBi is geared towards DC residents and commuters who use their bikes daily for short periods of time. Members pay a membership fee, and are charged a usage fee if they keep the bike for more than 30 minutes. Bike and Roll prices are intended to offer the best price for full day rentals. In addition to offering tours, Bike and Roll includes a helmet, lock, flat kit and map with every rental

Julie Walton Shaver of Livestyle Photography Visits MLK at Night on our Sites@Nite Tour!

October 16th, 2011 (Special thanks to JulieWaltonShaver.com.blog)

"We had taken a “Bike the Sites at Night” tour with Bike and Roll in downtown DC. Once our tour group got to the Martin Luther King Memorial, we had plenty of time to take it all in...The midnight color of the sky really added to the overall emotional effect of the monument to the great leader."

See some of Julie's amazing photos of our Monuments Sites@Nite tour on her blog, JulieWaltonShaver.com/blog

Britain's Bon Voyage Blog Tours DC By Bike

October 18th, 2011 (Special thanks to Phil Newcombe and TheBonVoyageblog.com)

"The last time I was in DC was, as near as I can recall, some twelve years ago. Of course, colleagues have visited in the meantime and come back with tales of urban regeneration and new attractions. But there’s nothing like a little first-hand knowledge, so when an opportunity to visit Washington DC arose I leapt at the chance.

"Bike & Roll is a rapidly growing business that is starting to establish itself around various cities in the ‘States.

"Basically you can hire a bike with helmet and lock and explore the city under your own steam, or as we did, have a guided tour. Our guide was excellent; a local lad from neighbouring Virginia, he had been away to New Mexico to study English and Psychology and was back in the city sharing his knowledge of American history with us. Not boring, stuffy history, rather relevant and intriguing glimpses into the architecture and monuments that were the focus of our morning ride. Bizarrely, the ride seemed to be gently downhill all the way around – and keeping in mind we cycled a loop covering several miles and most of the major monuments I don’t remember a single hill! Plenty of stops en route for a quick history, photo and a gander. Of particular interest to me were the brand new Martin Luther King Memorial and the Korean War Memorial."

"George ate here. George slept here. George (probably) partied here. The "here" is Alexandria, Va., one of America's oldest cities. And George? Well, he's the first president of the United States of America...

Bike Old Town

"Alexandria is accessible by the many trails that surround the Potomac. Rent a bike in Old Town from Bike and Roll, and you can ride the 10-mile trail to Mt. Vernon. Rates start at $10. Details: 703-548-7655; www.bikethesites.com."

Ciao Bambino Blog "Rolls With It"

By Dana Redman

September 15th, 2011 (Special thanks to Ciaobambino.com)

"One of the toughest parts about traveling in Washington DC with kids is that there’s so much to see and do.  Even when you narrow down the “must see” there’s still a great deal of physical ground to cover. Getting to and from so many monuments and memorials takes time and can wear on travelers young and old. So when I discovered Bike and Roll, I ran, or should I say rolled, with it.

"Bike and Roll runs a number of tours in the Washington, DC area.  I booked my family on their Monuments@Nite Bike Tourthe first night we were in town.

Biking through Paris was a huge hit with my family, and along with having a blast, it really helped give us a good sense of direction in Paris. I hoped for the same in DC and I was not disappointed."

"A Capital Cycle Through History" with the Sydney Morning Herald

By David Whitley

August 16, 2011 (Special thanks to the Sydney Morning Herald, SMH.com/au)

"The key sights, however, are along the National Mall. From the Capitol Building at one end to the Lincoln Memorial at the other, it's about three kilometres. On foot, you might be tempted to skip some of the more inconveniently located drawcards.

"On a bike, this is not an issue. Six or seven kilometres seems about right; one memorial pops up shortly after the other and the terrain is just about perfect. As our guide, Tujon, says: "It's as flat as a pancake, with just a couple of blueberries on top..."

Head advisory getting you down? Beat the heat with Bike and Roll!

Is the humidity hurting your vacation? Bike and Roll has plenty of suggestions on how to enjoy the sites of Washington without melting. Walking from site to site is guaranteed to be hot and sticky, but cruising around on a bike is a breeze! In addition to our popular Sites @ Nite tours we can suggest:

1. Starting early – Grab a bike for just two hours, you can cover most of the area and major spots. Maps, helmets and friendly staffers to assist you and get you on your way early.

2. Renting at night – Pick up a bike as late as 8:45 – we'll provide lights and locks. Return them in the morning or at your leisure during the day.

3. Looking for a cooler riding? Try the canal or Rock Creek Park. Use one of our comfort hybrids or take it up a notch and try out a performance or road model.

4. Wondering which of our day time tours is cooler? Try our 9:30 AM Monuments tour. There are lots of shady stopping points, knowledgeable and entertaining guides and done by lunch time.

5. We are experts at taking advantage of the shade; on very hot days guides take advantage of the shade and are knowledgeable about avoiding long stretches of non-shaded areas.

But don't take our word for it, read some reviews on TripAdvisor from customer's who've taken our tours this summer:

"We visited DC in the hottest week of the year! The temps were over 100 every day of our visit. Because our feet and legs were so sore from walking everywhere and it was so miserably hot, we almost cancelled our bike ride. That would have been a huge mistake...The nice breeze from riding felt like heaven." - BJGtravelBug (July 2011)

"The guides are young, friendly and very knowledgeable -- telling interesting, little known stories about each site. There is plenty of time for photos -- the pace is easy and relaxing. Both times we have taken the tour at night when it is cooler and the monuments are lit. I highly recommend this tour for young and old alike." - Mammak100 (July 2011)
