Trees That Please: 'Blossoms By Bike' THE ARRIVAL OF petals makes people want to pedal. My favorite way to gawk at the cherry blossoms by bike (or hike) is to take a trip down the Capital Crescent Trail and hop off in Kenwood, the tony Bethesda neighborhood where every street is covered by a cotton candy-colored canopy. But if you're looking for something more structured — and around the tourist-packed Tidal Basin — you can turn to Bike the Sites. The company is offering two "Blossoms by Bike" tours for 2010, an easy two-hour trek from downtown D.C. and a new three-hour adventure that starts in Old Town Alexandria. The price ($32-$42) includes a bike and helmet rental, and water. Already have wheels? You can tag along for free ranger-led tours that take off from the Jefferson Memorial (Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. through April 11). Stretch out after all that riding by heading to the Sylvan Theatre lawn (just south of the Washington Monument) on Saturday at 11 a.m., where Lululemon will be hosting National Cherry Blossom Festival Yoga. It's BYOM — bring your own mat. But that'll come in handy for a post-workout picnic. |
