The rhythms of the city can be felt at the Sunday drum circle in Meridian Hill Park. One of DC’s best-kept secrets, this spirited event (which takes place from 3pm to around 9pm) has been getting people moving for more than 40 years. 2. National Portrait Gallery
Nine hundred portraits of influential and historical men and women (presidents, athletes, artists, pop culture icons) are on view under one roof at this memorable museum. Eighth and F sts; 202-633-8300; www.npg.si.edu

3. National Zoo Sunset Serenades
Hoof it on down to the zoo to hang out with the resident animals and hear some great music. These free outdoor concerts on Thursdays feature jazz, folk, blues and rock performances.
