Question of the day: Have you ever ridden a Segway?

What's on your bucket list? Running a 5k? Bungee jumping? Traveling the world? Entering a hotdog eating competition? (Hey, whatever floats your boat!) If you haven't already, we think you all should pencil in "ride a Segway" onto that wish list... right now!

Segs small

If you've ever seen "Arrested Development" or "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," then you are more than aware of the entertaining novelty factor involved with cruising along on a Segway-- they're certainly quirky and oh-so-different than riding a bike or driving a car! We bet you've even stared at a group of Segway-ers on tour thinking to yourself, "Huh... I wonder what that's like?". Well, why not find out for yourself? (Come on-- even former Presidents have been snapped riding Personal Transporters around!)

Segways truly are a "you have to try it at least once" kind of activity, and we'd love to be the ones to help you check "go on a Segway tour" off of your list! Bike and Roll's  "Sites by Segway" tour offers the perfect opportunity to make your Segway dreams come true-- not only will you be able to say "I've done that!" whenever anyone brings up Segways (hooray for bragging rights!), but you'll also get to experience an absolutely amazing tour of our Nation's Capital, perfect for both DC locals and tourists alike.

Hey, if you don't believe me, check out a recent rave review from a local on TripAdvisor:

"Incredible way to tour DC! Highly, highly recommend the 2-hour segway tour. I've lived in DC two years... the guided tour information (given by Nick) was really, really high quality, with lots of fascinating information. GREAT way to see the city, and worth every penny."

So, what are you waiting for? Book now and see what riding a Segway around DC is really like!

It's just around the corner, folks!

That's right—the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival is fast approaching and, I don't know about you, but here at Bike and Roll we're pretty revved up for the city to turn pink once again!

If you've never visited DC during Cherry Blossom Festival, you should! There's an enormous amount of amazingly cool things to do around the city (think parades, parties, and performances—oh my!) Aside from all the great events, it's really a breathtaking sight to behold. And if you're already planning on heading our way, then don't be shy and give us a visit!

As usual, Bike and Roll will be offering Blossoms by Bike rides. This ride will leave from our National Mall location from 12:00 – 2:00 pm and 3:00 – 5:00 pm, with an additional weekend tour from 9:30 – 11:30 am. Blossoms by Bike will also be available at our Union Station location 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Friday through Sunday. And, a longer ride will be offered from the Alexandria location, located in the heart of Old Town. The Blossoms by Bike River Ride will take you along the scenic Mount Vernon Trail where you will view the beauty of the blossoms from across the Potomac River.  The ride will then continue into DC and around the Tidal Basin before heading back to Alexandria. Rides will be offered from Bike and Roll Alexandria on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

And, if all that isn't enough to entice you, check out the beautiful photos we've captured of previous Blossoms by Bike rides.

...pretty awesome, huh? (Yeah, we think so too.)

Marks Family in Alexandria, VA 2009

Many people love their jobs, but I find mine to be exceptionally great. It feels good to know that I can provide a healthy, green way to see the city that I love. I am blessed in many ways by this opportunity to operate Bike and Roll Washington DC. A close friend of mine started Bike the Sites in 1997. When I took over in 2003 we opened at our original location at the Old Post Office Pavilion and added rentals to our product lineup. There were 50 bikes in the fleet that first year and now we boast well over 600 pieces of equipment, all spread between three locations and one hotel. We have amazing returning staff and customers every year. It has been quite a ride.

I am lucky enough to have three generations of family members involved in the business including my sister Nikki, my wife Janna, our two sons Eli and Noah, and my father, Robert. Our pooch Izzy is always happy to come and observe and shake her tail at customers. Having lived in the DC area my whole life, I’ve come to believe that Washington DC is one of the greatest cities to bike in.

I invite you to come take advantage of our great city by bike, the greenest and fastest way to see our nation’s capital. Come bike the sites!

Sincerely,

Stephen Marks
