"We had several friends recommend this bike tour for our first family trip to D.C. Our kids are 11 and 9 and this was the perfect way to see all of the monuments and memorials. The kids and adults all agreed that this was the best part of our vacation." - May 2013

"My husband and I rented bikes in Alexandria and rode to Mt. Vernon! It is a beautiful ride! The trail was easy to follow and the bikes were great! Would highly recommend this experience!" - April 2013

"We live in Baltimore and are familiar with DC but had never done the segways. We rented through Bike and Roll and had Aaron as our guide. We were thinking it might be fun and something different. WOW were we surprised!! Riding the segways was AWESOME!! Aaron was the perfect guide. He gave us a great highlight tour, but not just the usual things that we go to when we visit DC. We saw great sights and learned interesting facts." - April 2013

"We loved biking the monuments with Bike and Roll. Both of my kids (ages 16 and 9) voted it their favorite DC activity...I would definitely sign up to do another Bike and Roll tour." - April 2013

My First Tour

lauren on a tourLast week, I had the pleasure of tagging along on a Bike and Roll tours to see the sights in DC. It was a beautiful day weather wise, and the experience was AWESOME! As a new employee for Bike and Roll, it seemed only natural that I hop on a bike and take the tour everyone raves about. I certainly know my way around a bike after having lived in the Netherlands for the past year and a half where bikes outnumber

people. For some reason, riding a bike in DC seemed a bit more intimidating. However, my trepidations were quickly dissolved the moment we huddled up for the pre-excursion safety talk. As my fellow bike riders and I peddled away, I quickly came to realize how easy and fun this was going to be!

I've checked out the best sights and monuments in DC before, but saddling up on a bike to take the tour makes a world of difference. It was great to see so much of DC, and cover so much ground in such a short amount of time. And the best part is, the view was so much better on a bike than what you could see stuck in traffic in a car, or on a big bus twisting your head around to catch a glimpse of The White House or the Lincoln Memorial.

Both the tour and our guide (Matt) were insightful and original, and I even learned a thing or two! My favorite part was riding along the Japanese Cherry trees and into the FDR memorial. I can't imagine any better way to check out DC, and really take in the city around you. It's safe to say the Bike and Roll Tour has convinced me two wheels really are the best way to get around this city!

5 Reasons to Beat the Heat with Bike and Roll

icy pops 2012

The heat is no reason to put your DC plans on hold! Bike and Roll guided tours are still the best way to see the sites and monuments, no matter the temperature. Here are the top 5 reasons to hop on a bike tour this summer:

1. Early Birds: Hop on our 9:30am Monuments tour (offered Friday to Monday, June 22 - August 20) and experience Washington DC before the sun is high in the sky. Our 10am Capital Sites tour leaves daily from our National Mall location.

2. Catch a Breeze: Enjoy a cool breeze as you pedal along the flat sidewalks of the National Mall. Biking is much easier then walking, bringing you from site to site in a fraction of the time it takes to walk. That means less time standing under the sun and more time enjoying the sites.

3. Made in the Shade: Our tour guides know the National Mall inside and out, and so are familiar with all of the shady spots. Tours will take every chance to stop under a shady tree. The stone ceilings of many of the monuments also provide cool shelter.

4. Quick Trip: Rent a Bike and Roll bike by the hour instead of the full day ($7/hr, 2 hour minimum). Take the bike for a couple hours in the morning or the evening. Avoid the sun and crowds by taking advantage of our off-peak hours (open 9am to 9pm throughout the summer).

5. Sweet Treat: Finish your tour with a refreshing "Icee" Pop! New this season, cruise back to the Bike and Roll shop and slurp on a frozen treat before going on your merry way.

"Soo glad we rented bikes!"

"It was like 100 degrees outside and instead of hiking all over the mall, we were able to quickly ride from site to site... We were able to see all of the monuments and memorials in two hours! Plus, the breeze while riding was great. Jeff provided great service and I'd recommend this experience for everyone. I actually wish I could just rent a bike for the week and ride from museum to museum. It would sure beat walking in this heat. . ." - Alison, Austin TX, July 2012 (TripAdvisor.com)
